In 2013, ceramic master Jun Kaneko’s installation of Tanuki gures and Dangos in Millenium Park was a critical success and a welcome addition to Chicago’s venerable public art landscape. This Fall, the artist returned to Chicago with an intimate installation of the iconic Dango series. The former factory building space housed a Zen setting of Kaneko’s iconic Dango forms. The red brick and concrete walls acted as an unexpected, rich backdrop to the smooth, reflective glazes of the works of varying scale.Kaneko’s work has been included in numerous museum and public collections including: Corning Museum of Glass, Detroit Institute of Arts, de Young Museum San Francisco, Japan Foundation, Museum of Arts & Design NY, Museum of Ceramic Art, Phoenix Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, National Gallery of Australia, Racine Art Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and V & A South Kensington among many others.
